Self Portrait, 2009. Detail.

Much of figurative artist and writer Caroline Jennings’s work centers upon the sense of displacement and longing experienced by those who are exiles within their own lands and/or who spend their lives mentally, emotionally, or physically stretched between two worlds. The artist is a a native of rural West Virginia who has lived most of the past twenty-five years in Manhattan while retaining strong ties with Appalachia and travelling extensively.

Her work is narrative in nature, and she uses whatever means seems most appropriate, visual or verbal, to tell her stories. In recent years  she has focused increasingly upon writing as a less space-consuming,  less physically toxic and more portable means of communication.

She is resident artist for the Great Arab Revolt Project in southern Jordan, as well as their small finds paper expert and back-up Arabic translator.
